Yaesu FTM-400 Quick Reference
This is a quick reference for common tasks involving the Yaesu FT3D HT. Topics include entry of repeater frequencies, offset and CTCSS tones, deleting memory frequencies and memory banks. Other common programing options will also be covered.
Communication Modes
Receive
- AMS Automatic mode select. Automatically detects digital v analog incoming singals
- DN (V/D) Simultaneous voice and data transmission (your position is also transmitted)
- VW (FR) High quality digital voice (position information NOT transmitted)
- DW (FR) High speed data
- FM Voice FM
- Press the D/X button on the left
Transmit
- Setting the communications mode to DN or VW will set the transmission mode to digital
- Setting the communications mode to FM will transmit FM analog
Repeater Entry & Memory Write
- Switch to VFO mode
- Select the frequency using the right sided dial or keypad
- Press FMW for 1 second or longer
- Use the right sided dial or touch screen to select the desired memory channel
- Press FMW to save
- Naming memory channel
- Press and hold V/M until memory list is displayed
- Select memory channel you wish to name
- Press and hold FMW for 1 second or longer
- Enter in the memory name
- Press enter and then back
- Change the memory tag size
- Press and hold DISP
- Touch MEMORY
- Touch ALPHA TAG SIZE
- Press DISP for one second
Deleting Memory Channel
- Hold V/M until memory list is displayed
- Select the desired frequency using the dial or touch screen
- Touch DEL
Listening on the Input Repeater Frequency
- Press the FMW button then REV
Memory Banks
- No memory banks on this radio
Programmable Memory Scan
- Go to VFO mode
- Select the lower band scan edge (144.40 good start for 2M)
- Press FMW for one second and turn the dial to select the lower P1L channel
- Press FMW to save
- Repeat the above for the upper band limit frequency P1U
- Go back to memory mode and select the P1L channel and then FMW then SCAN
CTCSS
Using CTCSS will keep the receiver quiet and unsquelch only if the same CTCSS tone is heard from another radio.
- Press DISP for one second or longer. Then touch SIGNALING.
- Select TONE SQL FREQ
- Using the dial select the desired frequency. Remember this has to be the same as the other radio
- Press TONE SQL FREQ again
- Press DISP for one second or longer
- Press FMW then SQL to display T-TRX
Squelch
Touch SQL on the bottom of the screen. When SQL turns orange then rotate the right upper dial to adjust the squelch.
Transmit Power
Press the FMW button on the right. Then touch TX PWR to select desired power output.
WIRES-X
- Press and hold WIRES-X button for 1 second to activate
